This week, our focus is on Thorsby High School!
Principal: Holly Matson
Assistant Principals: Darren Denny & Amy Guy

Thorsby High School serves 909 students daily in grades PreK-12. For the 2024-2025 school year, they achieved their highest school report card score ever, of 89, with 100% Academic Growth.

Elementary (PreK–6th Grade)

Our elementary students benefit from a well-rounded schedule that includes special classes such as Digital Literacy with Vocabulary Enhancements, Library, Art, and Music. These offerings enrich student learning while providing teachers with at least 30 minutes of additional planning time each week, often more depending on the schedule.

Music: Mrs. Howell, our band director and music teacher, leads students in presenting two major programs each year; a Veterans Day Musical and a Christmas Musical. These events are open to the community and have become special traditions that our students, families, and staff look forward to each year. Both programs highlight the incredible musical talents of our students.

Digital Literacy with Vocabulary Enhancements: Mrs. Wilson serves as our Digital Literacy teacher for grades K–6. Students meet with her weekly to build skills in keyboarding, digital literacy, vocabulary development, and safe internet practices through a variety of digital and informational platforms. This course was created to strengthen performance in vocabulary, writing through keyboarding, and overall digital competence, some of the key components of our state report card.

Secondary (7th–12th Grade)

Academics – Our students benefit from schedules designed to support success in both honors coursework and technical career pathways. We are proud to maintain a graduation rate of 88% and a college and career readiness rate of 97%, which is truly outstanding.

Our Scholars Bowl team competed at Auburn a few months ago and won the championship in their division.

Our FFA program also had an exceptional year, competing in the 98th National FFA Competitions held in Indianapolis, Indiana:

  • Dairy Evaluation Team – Silver Team

  • Meats Evaluation Team – Silver Team

  • Poultry Evaluation Team – Silver Team

Additional accomplishments include:

  • June 2025 State Champions: Dairy Evaluation Team, Meats Evaluation Team, Poultry Evaluation Team

  • November 2025 District Champion: Land Judging Team

Athletics – THS has a thriving athletic program. Last year, two of our students advanced to Division I athletics, and so far this year we have two additional commits, with the potential for more. Our football team had a historic 2025 season, scoring more total points than ever before and achieving the longest undefeated streak in school history. We are extremely proud of their hard work and dedication.

We are also benefitting from a new softball field that is interconnected with our football facility, allowing us to further showcase the standard of excellence we pursue daily. Additionally, our auditorium has received new seating and flooring and now looks fantastic, enhancing our ability to host more events for both our school and community.

We are proud to be Thorsby Rebels!!!
