Friday Focus- 10/3/25
This week's Friday Focus is on Clanton Middle School!
Principal: Tony Byrd
Assistant Principal: Kala Langston
At Clanton Middle School, our teachers work every day to help students do their best. By setting high expectations, providing personalized support, and fostering strong character, we help students grow academically, socially, and personally. CMS Tigers show PRIDE in everything we do – Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence!
📖 Library Media Center:
Clanton Middle’s Library Media Center has become a joyful learning hub for students and teachers. With flexible seating, a refreshed and genre-fied book collection, and an open schedule, the library offers a welcoming space for reading, tutoring, and collaboration. Makerspace Exploration sessions have added an exciting hands-on element, motivating students to create, build, and experiment with new technologies.
⭐ Beta Club:
The CMS Beta Club is thriving as students embrace opportunities to lead and serve. Members are active in school and community projects, modeling responsibility and character for their peers. Through service activities and leadership development, the club provides students with meaningful ways to make a difference and grow as leaders.
📈 Academics:
CMS teachers are teaching targeted lessons designed to meet each student’s specific skill needs. Teachers are pushing students and maintaining high expectations, helping them build confidence and mastery. Early results show increased engagement and academic growth.
🛠️ PLTW (Project Lead The Way):
CMS students in PLTW are exploring hands-on, real-world problem solving through engaging projects that build creativity and critical thinking skills. From designing solutions to tackling engineering challenges, PLTW gives students opportunities to apply classroom learning to practical experiences, preparing them for future success.
🍎 FACS (Family and Consumer Sciences):
In FACS, students are gaining valuable life skills through hands-on projects that focus on areas such as nutrition, personal finance, and career readiness. This class encourages creativity, independence, and practical problem solving, helping students build skills they can carry into both school and life beyond.
📝 Labs:
Students have the opportunity to get free tutoring in our labs. A certified teacher is available each day for each of the core subjects. Students can get extra help with material, complete missing assignments, and ask questions in a small group setting that supports both understanding and confidence.
In the weeks leading up to ACAP testing, students have the opportunity to participate in our ACAP Math Boot Camp. During this time, they review advanced topics and test-taking strategies to prepare them for success on the upcoming assessment. Students who complete the program earn a celebratory field trip to Peach Park once testing is completed. See the picture below for last year's boot camp!
